Roles and access
People take part in a FilmKit production in one of four ways. What someone can see depends on whether they're a member of the space, whether their contact is on a project's roster, and which role that contact has on the project.

| Role | Who they are | What they can do | How they get access |
|---|---|---|---|
| Collaborator | A member of the space. | Open and edit every project in the space, including the screenplay, schedule, casting, and budget. Changes appear for everyone as they're made. | You invite them to the space. See Invite people to a space. |
| Viewer | Someone with a FilmKit account whose contact is on a project's roster. | Read a project's overview, schedule, roster, and the documents published to them. They can't edit anything and never see the live screenplay. | You send an access invite from their contact. See Share access and self-service links. |
| Logger | A viewer whose role on the project is a camera, sound, or script supervision role. | Everything a viewer can do, plus log takes in On Set. The project opens on On Set for them. | Same as a viewer, with a logging role on the roster. See Add contacts to a project. |
| Crew | A contact, usually without a FilmKit account. | Receive the documents you publish to them, such as call sheets, sides, and their schedule, through email links. | You add them to the project and publish to them. See Publish and distribute documents. |
Collaborators
Every member of a space is a collaborator in all of its projects. Members are listed in the Members card in Space Settings. There are no separate permissions inside a project, so invite only people who should see everything, including budgets and casting.
Viewers
A viewer's access belongs to a project, not to the space. A viewer can open a project only while their contact is on that project's roster, and removing the contact from the project removes their access right away.
When a viewer opens a project, they see a reduced sidebar with Overview, Schedule, Contacts, and Publications, and a note at the top of the overview: "You have read-only access to this project." On the Projects page, their projects are marked Read-only.
Loggers
A logger is a viewer whose role on the project is one of these: Script Supervisor, Director of Photography (DoP), Camera Operator, 1st Assistant Camera, 2nd Assistant Camera, Film loader, Camera production assistant, Digital Imaging Technician (DIT), Production sound mixer, Boom operator, or 2nd Assistant sound.
Loggers also see On Set in the sidebar, where they can log takes and add reference stills. Everything else stays read-only for them, and they never see the screenplay. See Log takes.
Crew
Crew don't need an account. They get links by email to the documents you publish to them, and they can confirm that they received a call sheet. See Receive published documents.
