Intro to AI in FilmKit
You can use an AI assistant to ask questions about your project, search the script, and propose changes. FilmKit has an assistant built into every project, and you can also connect an AI client you already use, such as Claude. Either way, the assistant works with your access, and changes to your screenplay wait for your approval.

The project assistant
The project assistant is a chat panel inside a project. Ask it about scenes, characters, places, or props, and it searches the project to answer. It can also propose screenplay edits and help with the breakdown and the schedule. Each message uses AI credits from your space. See Use the project assistant.
Connected AI clients
You can connect any AI client that supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for connecting AI assistants to apps. You sign in to FilmKit from the client and approve what it may do. See Connect an AI client.
Depending on the permissions you approve, a connected client can:
- Read your projects, screenplays, scenes, breakdowns, schedules, and comments, and search a project or this user guide.
- Propose screenplay edits, including find-and-replace across the script and character renames.
- Reply to and resolve comment threads.
- Add and update characters, places, and items, and tag where they appear.
- Edit the shooting schedule: boards, shooting days, events, and call sheets.
- Edit the e-casting request form of a casting role.
- Generate storyboard frames and character reference images, which uses AI credits.
- Send record, exposure, and slate commands to cameras on set.
Your screenplay stays in your hands
An assistant never changes your screenplay text directly. Its edits arrive as suggestions that someone has to accept in the editor, and each one shows which AI client proposed it. See Review AI edits.
The assistant always acts as you. It can only see and change what you can, and everything it does is recorded under your name and the client's name.
