Intro to the directory and profiles

FilmKit has a public side: a searchable directory of people and organizations. You appear in it through a profile, and you show your work on it with showreels. Profiles are also what you apply with when you answer a casting call or a crew job.

The directory

The directory lists every public profile in FilmKit. Anyone can browse it, even without a FilmKit account. You can search by name and filter by profile type. Crew profiles can also be filtered by department and role, and actor profiles by playing age, height, and physical attributes. See Search the directory.

Each profile has its own public page with its main showreel, tagline, location, description, skills, languages, and type-specific details. An actor's page shows the agency that represents them, and an agency's page shows its roster.

Profiles

A profile presents one person or organization. Each profile has exactly one type:

  • Cast / Actor: An actor, with playing age, height, union status, and physical attributes.
  • Crew: Someone who works behind the camera, with departments, roles, availability, and a rate.
  • Production company, Film school, Festival, and Talent agency: Organizations, each with their own details.
  • Other: Anything that doesn't fit the types above.

You can have several profiles, for example a Cast / Actor profile and a Crew profile. See Create and edit a profile.

Visibility

Every profile has a visibility setting that decides who can find it:

  • Public: The profile is listed and searchable in the directory.
  • Unlisted: Only people who have the direct link can open the profile.
  • Hidden: The profile isn't published at all. New profiles start as Hidden.

Showreels

A showreel is a named collection of videos and images. A profile can have several, and one public showreel can be the profile's main showreel, shown at the top of its public page. See Add showreels.

Managed profiles and agencies

A space can own profiles too. A talent agency, for example, can keep its actors' profiles in its space, so every member of the space can update them. See Manage profiles for others.
