Manage shooting locations

You can keep a list of the real-world places where you film, with their address, map coordinates, and availability. A location is different from a place in the script: the lighthouse in your story might be filmed at two different real buildings.

Locations belong to the space, so every project in the space can use the same location without copying it.

Add a location

  1. In a project, click Locations in the sidebar.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Create a location: Click Create, enter a Name, then click Create.
    • Use a location from another project in the space: Click Connect existing, choose the location, then click Connect location.

The location appears in the project's list.

Edit a location

  1. On the Locations page, click the location.
  2. In Location details, change the Name or Description.
  3. Under Address, enter the Street, Zip, City, and Country.
  4. Under Coordinates, do one of the following:
    • Find the coordinates from the address: Click Find from address.
    • Enter the coordinates yourself: Enter the Latitude and Longitude.

The map next to the details shows a pin at the coordinates; on a phone the map is above the details. To open the position in OpenStreetMap, click Open in map.
  5. Click Save.

You choose from this list when you set the location of a shooting day or an event, and Fill from forecast uses the shooting day's location. See Set up shooting days.

Link a location to places in the story

  1. On the Locations page, click the location.
  2. Under Linked places, click Link a place…, then choose a place.

To remove a link, click next to the place, then click Remove. The place and the location both stay in the project.

Record when a location is available

  1. On the Locations page, click the location.
  2. Under Availability, click Add window.
  3. Enter the From and To dates, then choose a Status: Available, Booked, Hold, or Unavailable.
  4. Click Add window.

The schedule flags shooting days that fall in a window when the location is unavailable or on hold.

Remove or delete a location

Do one of the following:

  • Remove a location from this project only: On the Locations page, click Remove from project in the location's row, then confirm. The location stays in the space for other projects.
  • Delete a location everywhere: Open the location, click Delete, then click Delete to confirm.
The location moves to the project's Trash, where you can restore it. Links to places aren't restored. See Restore deleted items from the Trash.

To copy a location, open it, then click Duplicate.
