Import and export footage

You can keep a list of the camera clips from your shoot on the Footage page: clip name, reel, start timecode, frames, resolution, codec, and date. When you import the DIT's clip sheet, FilmKit lists the clips and fills in the takes they belong to in one step, so the log and the footage agree.

Import a clip sheet or camera files

  1. In a project, click Footage in the sidebar.
  2. Click Import clip sheet.
The Import clip sheet panel, with a clip sheet source and a camera files source.
The Import clip sheet panel, with a clip sheet source and a camera files source.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • Use a clip sheet: Click Choose a clip sheet, then choose a DIT, Silverstack, or DaVinci Resolve export (a .csv, .tsv, or .txt file).
    • Read the camera files: Click Choose camera files, then select one or more clips, including .braw, .mov, .mxf, or .r3d files. FilmKit reads only their metadata; the media stays on your device.

A preview shows what the import would do: how many clips land on a take, conflict with a logged value, have no take and are kept as footage only, and are footage rows to write. Click a count to show only those rows.
  4. Check the preview. Clips match takes by their slate numbers, and a clip whose take isn't logged yet creates the take.
  5. To replace logged values with the sheet's values where they conflict, select the overwrite checkbox (for example, Overwrite the 2 conflicts).
  6. Click Apply.

Nothing is written until you click Apply. Circle marks, ratings, tags, and notes on takes are never changed by an import, and clips that are already stored aren't written again.

Export footage for editorial

Do one of the following:

  • For DaVinci Resolve: Click Export CSV.
  • For Avid Media Composer and other editing apps that read ALE: Click Export ALE.

The export buttons are available once the project has at least one clip.

Delete and restore clips

  1. In the footage list, click next to the clip.
  2. Click Delete.

The clip moves to the project's Trash. To restore it, click Trash in the sidebar, then click Restore next to the clip. See Restore deleted items from the Trash.
