Track items and props

You can keep a page for everything your scenes need — props, costumes, makeup, vehicles, animals, effects, and more. Each item has a breakdown type, so the Items list reads like the departments of a breakdown sheet.

Create an item

  1. In a project, click Items in the sidebar.
  2. Click Create.
  3. In the New Item dialog, enter a name, then click Create.
The item's page opens so you can keep editing.

You can also create an item while you write: select the text in the screenplay, then link it to a new item. See Link script text to the catalog.

Set an item's type

The type decides which group the item appears in on the Items list. Items without a type appear under Uncategorized.

  1. In a project, click Items in the sidebar, then click the item's name.
  2. Click the Type menu, then choose a type, such as Props, Costumes, Vehicles, Livestock, or Special Effects.
The change is saved right away.

To change the item's Name or Description, edit the fields, then click Save.

An item describes what the story needs; a resource is the actual thing your production rents, buys, or borrows. For example, the brass lantern in the script might be sourced as two real lanterns: a hero lantern and a backup. To link a resource, it must already be assigned to the project. See Track production resources.

  1. In a project, click Items in the sidebar, then click the item's name.
  2. Under Real-world resources, click Link a resource…, then choose a resource.
  3. In the resource's row, enter a Quantity and, if you like, a usage note.

To unlink a resource, click in its row, then click Remove. The resource stays assigned to the project.

Duplicate, delete, or restore an item

Do any of the following:

  • Duplicate an item: On the item's page, click Duplicate.
  • Delete an item: On the item's page, click Delete, then click Delete to confirm.
  • Restore a deleted item: In the sidebar, click Trash, then click Restore next to the item. See Restore deleted items from the Trash.
