Collect look references
You can collect photos and drawings that show how a character looks — their face, costume, or expressions — on the character's page. Your team can use them as a visual brief, and AI-generated storyboard frames can use the ones you choose so the character looks the same from frame to frame.

Add look references
- In a project, click Characters in the sidebar, then click the character's name.
- On the Edit tab, go to Look references, then click .
- Choose one or more PNG, JPEG, or WebP images.
The images appear under Look references. - For each image, choose what it shows from the menu below it: Face, Full body, Costume, or Expression.
Choose references for AI frames
When you generate a storyboard frame with AI, FilmKit can use a character's look references to draw that character. Only the images you turn on are used.
- To use an image, select Use for AI below it. To stop using it, deselect Use for AI.
All the images you turn on, for every character in the shot, are combined into one reference sheet. Two or three images per character usually work best; with more, each image gets smaller and characters can start to look alike.
If a character has no references turned on, AI frames describe the character from the text in the character bible instead. See Generate storyboard frames with AI.
Remove a look reference
- Below the image, click .
- Click Remove to confirm.
