Search and jump with the command palette

The command palette is the search box at the top of every project and space. You can use it to find anything in the project, go to another page, start creating something new, or run an action, all without leaving the keyboard.

In a project, the palette searches that project. In a space, it searches the space and all of its projects.

Open the command palette

Do one of the following:

  • Use the keyboard: In a project or space, press ⌘+K. This works even while you're typing in a field.
  • Use the pointer: Click the Search… field at the top of the page.

The palette opens below the search box and lists commands before you type anything.

The commands are grouped:

  • Go to: Every page in the sidebar, such as Screenplays, Schedule, On Set, and Settings.
  • Create: Shortcuts that open the right page and start a new item, such as New screenplay, New character, New place, New item, New location, New resource, and New whiteboard. In a space, New contact adds a contact to the address book.
  • Recent: Pages you visited recently. This group appears only while the search box is empty.
  • Actions: Toggle sidebar, Open assistant or Hide assistant (in a project), and Keyboard shortcuts. Each action shows its keyboard shortcut.

Search for something

  1. Open the command palette.
  2. Enter what you're looking for, such as a character name, a word from a scene, or a contact.
Matching commands appear first, followed by search results grouped by type, such as Characters, Scenes, Screenplay, Places, Items, Shots, Takes, and Contacts. The matching words are highlighted.
  3. Press Down Arrow or Up Arrow to move through the list, then press Return to open the selected result (or click it).
FilmKit opens the page that holds the result. A result from the screenplay opens the editor at that exact line.

Run a command

  1. Open the command palette.
  2. Start entering the command's name, such as schedule or new character.
The list narrows to the commands whose names contain what you entered.
  3. Select the command, then press Return (or click it).

To jump to the first or last item in the list, press Home or End. To close the palette, press Esc; press Esc again to clear the search box.
