FilmKit workflow

This is a typical path through FilmKit for one production. The steps follow the order of a real production, but the workflow isn't strictly linear: you can start anywhere, go back to any step at any time, and different people on your team can work on different steps at once.

Step 1: Set up your space and project

Create a space for your company or team, then create a project for the production and invite the people you work with. See Create a space and a project and Invite people to a space.

Step 2: Write the screenplay

Write a new screenplay in the editor, or import one you already have. FilmKit formats it as you type and keeps a list of scenes, so you can revise, suggest changes, comment, and issue colored revisions. See Intro to screenwriting.

Step 3: Break down the script

Build the catalog of characters, places, and items the story needs, link them to the script text, and develop the character bible and look references. See Intro to characters, places, and items.

Step 4: Plan the shots

Plan the shots for each scene, draw storyboard frames, and arrange beats and scenes on whiteboards. See Intro to shots, storyboards, and whiteboards.

Step 5: Schedule the shoot

Put scenes on shooting days, check the day out of days, connect real locations and resources, and build the budget. When a day is ready, publish its call sheet to the crew. See Intro to scheduling and production.

Step 6: Bring in the people

Keep everyone you work with in the address book and add them to the project roster. Publish casting calls and crew jobs, review applicants and interest, and hire. See Intro to contacts, Intro to casting, and Intro to crew hiring.

Step 7: Shoot

On set, log takes against the planned shots, run the digital slate, control cameras, and export camera reports and footage metadata for editorial. See Intro to On Set.

Step 8: Publish and share

Publish call sheets, screenplay revisions, sides, and shot lists to the people who need them, and track who received them. When the film is finished, submit it to festivals. See Intro to publishing.

At any step, the project assistant can answer questions about your project, and a connected AI client can propose edits you review. See Intro to AI in FilmKit.
