Cookie policy
FilmKit stores small pieces of information in your browser: cookies, and similar technologies such as local storage, IndexedDB and a service worker cache. This page lists them, explains what each one is for and how you can change your choice. Our privacy policy explains everything else about how we handle personal data.
Your choice
The first time you visit FilmKit, a banner asks which optional purposes you allow: Analytics and Marketing. Advertising partners that would use data for their own purposes get a switch of their own under Marketing; today there are none. Nothing optional is stored before you choose, and refusing is as easy as accepting. Your choice is remembered for 12 months; after that, or when we change the purposes or add an advertising partner, we ask again.
You can also open Cookie settings at any time from the bottom of every public page or from your account menu. Withdrawing consent deletes PostHog's cookie and local storage entry straight away.
Necessary
These are needed for FilmKit to work, so they do not require consent (§ 25(2) TDDDG). They are never used for analytics or advertising.
Cookies
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
__Secure-filmkit.session_token | Keeps you signed in. Set for filmkit.app and its subdomains. | 7 days, renewed while you use FilmKit; deleted when you sign out |
__Secure-filmkit.better-auth-passkey | Holds the one-time challenge while you sign in with a passkey. | A few minutes |
__Host-csrf | Protects forms against cross-site request forgery. | Session |
filmkit_consent | Remembers your choice in the cookie banner (per purpose, and per advertising partner once there are any), and when you made it. Set for filmkit.app and its subdomains, so our servers can respect your choice too. When you are signed in, the choice is also saved to your account and applies on your other devices (the most recent choice wins). | 12 months |
selectedLocale | Remembers your language. | 12 months |
sidebar:state | Remembers whether the app sidebar is open. | 7 days |
filmkit.assistant.open, filmkit.assistant.width | Remember whether the AI assistant panel is open, and its width. | 12 months |
Storage in your browser
| Name | Type | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
filmkit.yjs-snapshot.* | IndexedDB | An offline copy of the projects you open, so you can keep working without a connection. Your private copies are deleted when you sign out. |
filmkit-screenplay-pages | IndexedDB | A cache of rendered screenplay pages. |
filmkit-shell-*, filmkit-assets-*, filmkit-public-navigations-* | Service worker cache | Lets FilmKit start quickly and open offline. Only public pages and the app's own files are cached. |
filmkit.editor.*, screenplaySidebar:*, filmkit.pageImages.*, filmkit.castingReview.*, filmkit.recent-routes | Local storage | Your editor and view preferences, and recently visited pages for quick navigation. |
filmkit.review.displayName, filmkit.picks.reviewerName, filmkit.picks.reviewerKey | Local storage | The name you entered when reviewing through a shared link, so you don't have to type it again. |
filmkit:my-ical-url, filmkit:ical-token:*, filmkit:self-service-token:* | Local storage | Calendar and contact links you opened, so you can find them again. |
filmkit:logging:*, filmkit.collaboration.*, filmkit.flags.* | Local storage | Device settings for footage logging and technical state for syncing projects. |
filmkit.screenplaySchemaReload, filmkit.castingReview.* | Session storage | Short-lived state for the current tab. |
Analytics (optional)
Only with your consent to Analytics. FilmKit uses PostHog (EU cloud, Frankfurt) to understand how FilmKit is used. Events are sent through r.filmkit.app, our
own address that forwards them to PostHog, so the cookie below is a
first-party cookie of filmkit.app. Details are in the
privacy policy, section 3.11.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
ph_<project key>_posthog | Cookie | A random identifier for your browser and the current visit, so PostHog can recognise returning visitors. Set for filmkit.app and its subdomains, so events our servers send are linked to the same identifier. | 12 months |
ph_<project key>_posthog | Local storage | PostHog's settings and the same identifier. | Until you withdraw consent or clear your browser data |
__ph_opt_in_out_<project key> | Local storage | Records that you consented to Analytics, so PostHog starts in the right mode. Removed when you withdraw consent. | Until you withdraw consent or clear your browser data |
Without analytics consent PostHog stores nothing on your device and reads nothing from it ("cookieless mode"). To count visitors, PostHog's servers compute a daily-changing code from your IP address and browser type; the inputs are not kept, and events are not linked to your account.
Marketing (optional)
Only with your consent. FilmKit does not place advertising cookies or pixels in your browser. With consent to the Marketing purpose and to the partner concerned, we may in future pass selected events from PostHog to advertising partners such as Meta, to measure our advertising. At present no data is passed to advertising partners. Before we start, we will name each partner here and the cookie banner will ask you about it.
Third-party services
Some features load content from other providers. They may receive your IP address, but FilmKit does not use them to track you:
| Provider | When | What |
|---|---|---|
Cloudflare Turnstile (challenges.cloudflare.com) | Waitlist form | A bot check. Necessary to protect the form; Cloudflare may store information in your browser for the check. |
Stadia Maps (tiles.stadiamaps.com) | Location maps | Map tiles. No cookies. |
Cloudflare Stream (videodelivery.net) | Videos, showreels and self-tapes | Video playback. No cookies. |
| YouTube, Google Drive | Link previews on whiteboards | Preview images of the linked page. |
Managing storage in your browser
Besides the cookie settings, you can view and delete cookies and site data in your browser's settings. If you delete the necessary ones, you are signed out and FilmKit loses its offline copies and your preferences.
Changes
We update this page whenever FilmKit starts or stops using a cookie or a similar technology. The date at the top shows the last change.
