Cookie policy

FilmKit stores small pieces of information in your browser: cookies, and similar technologies such as local storage, IndexedDB and a service worker cache. This page lists them, explains what each one is for and how you can change your choice. Our privacy policy explains everything else about how we handle personal data.

Your choice

The first time you visit FilmKit, a banner asks which optional purposes you allow: Analytics and Marketing. Advertising partners that would use data for their own purposes get a switch of their own under Marketing; today there are none. Nothing optional is stored before you choose, and refusing is as easy as accepting. Your choice is remembered for 12 months; after that, or when we change the purposes or add an advertising partner, we ask again.

You can also open Cookie settings at any time from the bottom of every public page or from your account menu. Withdrawing consent deletes PostHog's cookie and local storage entry straight away.

Necessary

These are needed for FilmKit to work, so they do not require consent (§ 25(2) TDDDG). They are never used for analytics or advertising.

Analytics (optional)

Only with your consent to Analytics. FilmKit uses PostHog (EU cloud, Frankfurt) to understand how FilmKit is used. Events are sent through r.filmkit.app, our own address that forwards them to PostHog, so the cookie below is a first-party cookie of filmkit.app. Details are in the privacy policy, section 3.11.

NameTypePurposeLifetime
ph_<project key>_posthogCookieA random identifier for your browser and the current visit, so PostHog can recognise returning visitors. Set for filmkit.app and its subdomains, so events our servers send are linked to the same identifier.12 months
ph_<project key>_posthogLocal storagePostHog's settings and the same identifier.Until you withdraw consent or clear your browser data
__ph_opt_in_out_<project key>Local storageRecords that you consented to Analytics, so PostHog starts in the right mode. Removed when you withdraw consent.Until you withdraw consent or clear your browser data

Without analytics consent PostHog stores nothing on your device and reads nothing from it ("cookieless mode"). To count visitors, PostHog's servers compute a daily-changing code from your IP address and browser type; the inputs are not kept, and events are not linked to your account.

Marketing (optional)

Only with your consent. FilmKit does not place advertising cookies or pixels in your browser. With consent to the Marketing purpose and to the partner concerned, we may in future pass selected events from PostHog to advertising partners such as Meta, to measure our advertising. At present no data is passed to advertising partners. Before we start, we will name each partner here and the cookie banner will ask you about it.

Third-party services

Some features load content from other providers. They may receive your IP address, but FilmKit does not use them to track you:

Managing storage in your browser

Besides the cookie settings, you can view and delete cookies and site data in your browser's settings. If you delete the necessary ones, you are signed out and FilmKit loses its offline copies and your preferences.
